First match this year and as usual starts with our Spring League.
Today we were at Fir Tree Fishery up near Parbold, Wigan. Given recent few days weather of wind and rain, today was blue sky, negligible wind and an air temperature which rose to about 15 degrees during the afternoon. A lovely Spring day!
Sixteen anglers made the trip, James sorted the pegging and the draw took place at 8.30am, with the match scheduled for a 10.00am start for a five hour duration.
Today's recipient of the Golden Peg and chance to win £200.00 was Rob Healey, who on peg 10 had a good chance.
Thanks to Sheila from Fir Tree who kindly delivered hot breakfast butties to the anglers pegs.
The match duly started at 10.00am, and from the off John Osborne, Rob Healey and Phil Clare caught fairly regularly and it was hard to gauge who had what.
At the all-out at 3.00pm the weigh-in began thanks to James and Phil C for their work.
The results can be seen below, Phil C took the win, who on peg 10 fished shallow at 11 metres on maggot, which was a winning combination today.
Commiserations to Rob who was within touching distance of Golden Peg in second, with John Osborne picking up third place.
A few breakages also occured with both Dave Newton and Tony Savage breaking sections.
Colin our driver, or today, should say diver lost his footing during the weigh-in and ended up sprawled on the bank. Of course we didn't laugh!
In a few weeks we will be at Bradshaw Hall, Bolton for our second match of this years Spring League, hope to see you there.
