First of our Summer League matches for this year and it turned out to be a proper Summers day. Although the sky was cloudy for most of the day and the breeze negligible the match started at 21 degree's C and by the end of the day reached 25 degrees C so a sweaty day it was!
We had twenty seven anglers today which isn't bad considering holidays etc. Everyone had arrived for 8.00am and Alan and James trooped off to sort the pegging out whilst everyone else paid their dues and generally contemplated the match to come.
The draw was completed just after 8.30am and the match set to start at 10.15am with a 3.15pm finish our usual five hour duration.
Given that we had twenty seven anglers fishing a thirty five peg pool it was never going to be easy. Most anglers were on the pole although a few had a chuck on the rod where distance and space allowed.
Everyone caught, lucky ones got the Carp and plenty of silvers showing, ie Roach and Gudgeon although Barbel were few and far between. Bait was pretty much anything, no one specific morsel stood out.
Highlights of the day was Butch Whiteside being pegged next to Paul Roby and Butch thinking he was getting hammered, fortunately for Butch he scrawped a few and pipped Mr Roby by seven pounds, it was entertaining listening to him whinge.
Rob Healey we were told managed to lasso a Coot, which wasn't best pleased, but lived to fight another day. Kev Smith tried to attack the footbridge with his gear and lost, although didn't stop him getting a decent weight. I spotted coach driver Colin retrieving his gear out of the surrounding landscape.
We welcomed Dave Hunt today a new club member and his first Summer match, hope you enjoyed it Dave, see you on more matches hopefully.
Adam Hill drew Golden Peg so he was 'cursed' from the start.
The match concluded and Alan & James sorted the weigh-in, and the results you can see for yourself below.
Our next match is a midweek match at Lloyd's Meadow on 7th June, we have a Junior match on 11th June and our next Summer match is a coach trip to Makins on the 18th June. Details of all matches elsewhere on our website and of course in your 2016/17 club licence.
