Last match for this season and final coach trip of the year also.
Today we were in Worcestershire at Cob House Fishery. Last year we visited this venue and didn't have the best of matches and as we had already booke this match we were bound to attend, so thoughts on the match varied.
Papperazzi wasn't on this match so notes here are anecdotal.
Members arrived shortly after 8.00am and enjoyed breakfast in Cobhouse's Mayfly cafe. The draw was completed along with our annual pairs match draw and the day got underway at 10.15 with a 3.15pm finish.
I believe it rained for most of the day, so not the best conditions.
Following the conclusion of the match a weigh-in on mammoth scale took place. Last year's disaster was a long forgotten memory as many anglers today beat their own personal records and match weights were the highest ever for a club match.
Unfortunately Frank drew Golden Peg and his match weight was less memorable and ensure the Golden Peg kitty goes up, until next time perhaps?
Congratulations to all who fished today's match, no doubt it will live in the memory of many for a long time!
Congratulations in particular to our top three, Mark, Alan and James. Mark now holds the record for the highest match weight in a club match, and I expect the total catch of 2,082lb to be the highest total ever.
Hard luck to Phil Morris who with a 17lb Carp almost took biggest fish, but wasn't quite enough to beat Rob Healey's 17lb 8oz caught at Boldings Pools earlier in the Summer.
Well done to Alan who won the pairs match all by himself, having an odd number of anglers and Alan being last to draw he effectively doubled his weight for the purposes of the pairs which was enough to make him the clear winner.
The excitement didn't stop, after the match members travelled to the Mitre Oak pub for tea and a few pints,
only to find after a few minutes the pub kitchen caught fire and guests were evacuated to the car park and the fire service called. So it was back on the coach and a hasty phone call to the Honey Bee Pub where we have been on previous visits to this neck of the woods to see if they could take us, which they could, so the day finally finished and club members eventually got fed and watered before the journey home.
Thats it, another season complete you can visit our leagues pages to see the winners and losers this season. The trophies will be presented on Friday 7th October at Roosters Club, Warrington we hope our members and families can make it along for a great fun filled evening with our usual hot food and fine ale served by Mark and Maureen at Roosters.
So that's it for now, before you know it our Winter League starts on 1st October when we will be at Hall Lane fishery..
See you all soon......Tightlines.....
