We were in Lancashire today at Fir Tree Fishery fishing 'Fir Water', a pool we hadn't seen or fished before. The pool was well laid out and staging all the way around
was ideal given the amount of rain we had lately and during the day.
Twenty anglers made the trip. Some sadness as we advised all members of the passing of Dave Berry, owner of Meadow View Fishery in Lymm who leaves a wife Margaret and their families. In respect, we held a one minute silence at 9.59am, one minute before our all-in which was a poignant moment as Margaret and Dave have been very helpful and welcoming over the years to our club.
Prior to the above our newly appointed match referee James sorted out the draw. Our other referees had either been called up to the team squad fishing the Winter league at Partridge Lakes or stayed at home in the warm.
The draw duly took place with Dave Hughes being this matches recipient of the Golden Peg and the match was planned for 10.00 - 3.00. Before we left the car park Shelagh came and took our food order.
Suprisingly the weather initially wasn't as bad as forecast, especially the wind which throughout the course of the match was relatively light, so many were on the pole with a few dabbling with the rod. The rain held off for the first couple of hours but progressively got heavier, lightening up during the weigh-in, which was a plus. JUst after the star Shelagh appeared with the food, so that lifted the spirits!
Everyone caught and all commented that they enjoyed the fishing.
Our winner today was James Bryan, his first win for a while, he was on the pole all day, fishing the same spot at about 14.5 metres on peg 14 using 4mm pellet and micro's, had a good collection of Carp and Silvers for his winning weight of 45lb.
Dave Hughes on the other hand with Golden Peg was less fortunate, so the money continues to be banked.
A mention also for Kieran one of our Juniors who today finished in a worth and creditable fifth place, well done Kieran!
I'm sure we will be visiting Fir Tree again, the pool was great, the layout excellent and all fish caught were in excellent condition.
Our next match is only three weeks away and is our last match of the year, last match of this year's Winter League and is of course our 'fur & feather match'. We are on home turf in Warrington on Partridge Lakes so look forward to seeing you there!
See you all soon......Tightlines.....
