Summer League - Highfield Fishery - Oak Pool - 1st August 2015

Half way through our Summer league and today we were at Highfield Fishery in Lancashire.
Twenty eight members made the match which was great considering we are now in to Summer holidays for many.
We welcomed new member Tony Savage to the merry throng of anglers and having spoken with him later, he enjoyed the day.
The weather today was almost Summery, peaking at about eighteen degrees, we had a mixture of sunshine and grey skies, just to remind us we were in Britain we had a brief rain shower at lunchtime but nothing significant. We also had a light breeze but that too was light.
All members arrived as usual for 8.00am and by the time everyone had breakfast, bought bait, we got the draw done at 8.30am.
After advise from the bailiffs that the pool fished better later we put our start back thirty minutes with the match fishing from 10.30am - 3.30pm.
It was a strange match today, the all-in sounded and for ages it seemed a long while before anyone got into any fish and even then it was very sporadic for most anglers. That said the results show reasonable weights, but would have expected more. The bailiffs thought that the overnight rain may have had an effect as well as we are not venue regulars so that too would keep the weights down. No set methods today, most flitted between pole and rod, out to the island for those that could and down the side. Same with baits, luncheon meat and paste were supposed to be the favoured baits, but maggot, caster and pellet were all used to varying degree's of success.
We were all hopeful that the 'last hour' scenario was going to happen, but it didn't for most.
The all-out duly sounded and the bailiffs did the weigh in which saved us some time.
Well done to all those that fished today and congratulations to our top three of Mark D who ounced Alan into second and in third Paul Morris. Hard luck to Mark 'Butch' Whiteside who today drew Golden Peg but felt the curse, only finishing in fifth place. "Nice try, but no cigar!".
Further congratulations who pulled out a monster 19lb Carp which is now currently biggest fish this year, will it be the winner, who knows, three matches to go before we find out!
The next match is only a week away and is our second coach trip of the Summer, this time to Cobhouse in Worcestershire. So look forward to seeing you all next Saturday 8th August.

See you on a match soon.
