Summer League - The Oaks - Alders Pool - 21st June 2014

Second match of our Summer League and our first coach trip of the year.
Twenty members plus papperazzi (me) made the journey to Thirsk in North Yorkshire. Everyone was on time for the coach pick ups (even the driver), as we were having breakfast at the venue we went directly via M62, A1M arriving at 7.45am and had to wait until 8.00am before breakfasts began being served.
After being fed and watered, Alan and John sorted out the pegging and the draw took place at 8.45am under clear blue skies which lasted throughout the day pretty much, giving us a pleasant 22 degree's.
Golden Peg today was Ray who like many had a hard day fishing.
Battle commenced with the all-in at 10.30am fishing our usual five hour match.
We had been advised earlier that fishing was currently difficult and this proved to be for the majority. It was clear fish were shoaled as our final top three were all pegged next to each other.
Some members preferred the pole others on the rod, some up in the water, some on the drop, no one method really performed today, same for bait although pellet was popular with many. The Carp were clearly not fussed for the majority of anglers with the Silverfish making the weights for many other than the top five or six.
Everyone persevered until the bitter end, and it was bitter for Mark who managed to break a section which is going to cost him £300 to replace, unfortunately his third place today picking up seven pound pools money still leaves him £293 short, hard luck Mark. In frustration he even threw in a pole rest which was eventually retrieved by the resourceful Mike Lewis.
Golden Peg once again defied the recipient and the money continues to roll up.
After the weigh-in we visited the Anchor Inn in Langthorpe for a buffet tea. Buffet Tea not being our usual fayre but the only option in this instance, which worked quite well as that got rapidly devoured with a few pints and we could get on to our favourite game Killer Pool. Not sure what the result was as i decided to sit outside drinking some fine ale and soaking up the sun.
Eventually the clock struck 7pm and our driver Colin dragged us kicking and screaming out of the pub for the journey home.
The trip home was full of the usual friendly banter and speaker of the house Roly recalling highlights of the day, usually at the expense of someone, but loved by all as it's all done in good fun.
We arrived back in Warrington shortly after 9pm and we all disappeared off ready to do it all again very soon. Next match is a Summer Sizzler at Meadow View next Sunday evening (29th), hope to see you there.
