Third match in our Winter League and we were at High Heyes Fishery almost twelve months to the day when we last fished here.
Seventeen anglers made the trip today and it also coincided with the birthday of club member James Bryan who reached his quarter century today and celebrated with a presentation of a birthday cake (see match gallery photo's), with a fishing theme of course.
Alan and James organised the pegging and the match was drawn at 8.30am with the match fished from 10.00am until 3.00pm.
Had a fortunate weather window as the previous day had rain and the following day was also forecast rain and stormy weather ahead. We had some fine rain very briefly, after that it was quite mild at about 13 degree's and little wind, although it did pick up a little towards the end of the match.
Today's recipient of the Golden Peg was Alan our match referee and rarely out of the top three, so we thought the Golden peg fund was going to be lighter by £200 today. As it happened, the curse lived up to it's name, and as you will see below Alan ended the day in sixth place, hard luck Al!
Today's match didn't fish anything like last year, we had very few Carp today, in fact a total of three i believe, the rest being Silvers with our winner today James (Birthday Boy) Bryan having a few nice Ide to boost the winning weight to 15lb 14oz, the highest weight last year was 39lb 2oz when we did see Carp and ironically that weight belonged to Alan Lamb. Most popular bait today by far was maggot.
The match concluded at 3.00pm with the weigh-in to follow, you can see the results for yourself below.
Hard luck to Alan on Golden Peg, well done to our top three of James, Ken and John O. Thanks to all those who fished, look forward to seeing you all in two weeks time on 9th November when we are in Staffordshire at Heronbrook.
That's it for now, see you on a match soon...
