Summer League - Hampton Springs - Rock Pool - 13th July 2013

We were in the Shropshire town of Malpas today at Hampton Springs and often the weather plays a part usually wind, rain, snow etc. Today we had an untypical Summer's day with temperatures up around 30 degrees, no breeze to speak of, clear blue sky and sun burning down all day.
The heat and lack of breeze for those without the luxury of shade was tough going, the fishery even left the aerators on all day due to the conditions as the air wasn't the best.
Nineteen members fished the match today, the draw took place quickly as Roly our match referee and his able assistant Alan pegged the pool in a short space of time. The match of the usual five hour duration fished from 10.00am until 3.00pm. The unlucky recipient of the Golden Peg was Marc Fearnley on peg 1.
Given the conditions (and we shouldn't complain), but it wasn't the best for fishing, extremely hot temperatures no wind so no ripple on the water made catching fish a task. Even the patience of a few anglers were tested over debates of who could fish where, but that all sorted itself out.
Some members expressed concern about the 'tow' effect that the aerators were having, but due to the weather it was understandable that they were left running.
Today's first and second were sat by each other on pegs 23 and 24. Adam being the eventual winner on peg 24. He fished all day at 5-6 metres, fished on the deck and all fish bar one were caught on luncheon meat (Sainsbury's own . . . other brands are available).
Everyone caught which was good and the hot weather wore a few anglers down, but everyone survived to fish another day. Golden Peg remained safe given Marc's 17th place, but we know it's cursed, so no surprise.
Good to see John Mysiak who we have not seen for a while and he got in the top ten, as did Paul Croft in only his second match with us with a creditable seventh place.
Well done to everyone, must say haven't seen so much flesh hanging out for a long while, let's hope it lasts until our next match, which will be our second coach trip taking place on 3rd August to Boddington Reservoir. Hope to see you all again on a match soon.
