Third and final coach trip for 2013 and we were off to Herefordshire, in particular Leominster and Docklow Pools. The original plan was to eat at the venue but our plans changed so breakfast was taken at the A5 Truckstop and we got there in super quick time thanks to coach driver or should we say racing driver Les deputising for Colin who was on a weekend trip to Thirsk, so was unavailable today.
We managed to peel all nineteen anglers off the coach seats to take breakfast.
The weather forecast for today was blue skies, a light breeze and an air temperature of seventeen degree's and that's exactly what we got. A very pleasant day.
It was back on the coach after breakfast for another thrill ride to the venue having scared a few cyclists, a tractor driver and a Morissons fuel tanker driver along the way and the souls on the coach (thanks Les).
Upon arrival at the fishery we all checked we were still in one piece and then we raided the tackle shop for bait and tips.
The weather continued to stay fine as mentioned above.
The draw took place and we agreed to fish the match from 11.00am until 4.00pm.
As this was the last of our coach trips it's traditional to do our pairs match so the teams were also drawn from the hat before the start.
Everyone caught today using various methods with Pole and with Rod and most baits saw the light of day from pellet, maggot, corn, meat, caster, worm etc.
Todays unfortunate who drew golden peg was Mark Whiteside, so his day was ruined before it got started. After five hours our winner today was John Bryan who fished mainly down the side on two or three sections of pole, up in the water on sweetcorn, alternating with maggot occasionally. His last hour was a struggle so he reverted to maggot and hauled a few silver fish in to make his weight up. Fortunately for him he did as his Brother, James, was a close second finishing only 1lb 4oz behind him and close behind James was Lammy with 44lb 14oz. Alan's third place today has secured him the Matchman trophy again for this year but Summer League division one is close and either Alan or James could win, with Alan being favourite with an eight point lead. Division 2 is also close with either Mark Whiteside or Paul Morris, so we will have to wait for the last match.
Before we go, well done to our winning pairs this year who are Tom Prescott and John Bryan, who between them hauled in 74lb 4oz.
On the way back home we stopped off for tea at Manor Farm, Worcester and what an excellent carvery and low cost prices . . . £4.19 for a carvery. Thanks to Mick and the staff for looking after us, hope to see you again when we are next in the area.
Well done to all those that fished today, hard luck to Mark on Golden Peg who finished in 8th spot, our final Summer League match is in two weeks on 14th September and we will be in Shropshire at Weston Pools located in Oswestry, so we hope to see you there.
See you all soon......Tightlines.....
