Winter Drizzler - Border Fishery - Meridian Canal - 23rd March 2013

Second of two Winter Drizzlers and independent of our other leagues, these are just for fun before the main matches start in the Spring.
For these matches we have divided each match into Carp and Silvers with points being awarded for both, so below you will see two sets of weights and points for each angler.

There was us thinking that with a month passing by from the first match in this series, we would be enjoying better weather and fishing conditions!
How wrong we were!

We were however impressed with the fact that eight members decided to take part in this match, given that our home town of Warrington was besieged with Snow, air temperature of only two degree's which with the wind chill factor was approximately equal to minus 5 degree's. One member Tom who lives in Ormskirk had to dig himself out and take a long detour to avoid a road accident, that's dedication above any beyond, well done Tom!

We arrived at Border by 7.15am having allowed for the bad road conditions only to find that there was no snow past Knutsford, hence our early arrival.
Disaster struck as soon as we arrived, the cook who lives in Stoke was apparently snowed in and couldn't make it, so no catering. All we could do was go back to the Little Chef by junction 16 of M6, so we all went back out the few miles to the Little Chef, respectfully known to us all as the 'Little Thief' due to the high cost of a brekkie, but desperate measures for desparate times.
After that wallet emptying exercise it was all back to Border to start the match.
Due to the morning hassle and the conditions we decided to have this match as a Rover, with the person drawing peg number one getting first pick of pegs on Meridian Canal, and so on until all eight anglers were suitably pegged.
All-In was when you were ready and all-out was to be at 3.00pm.
As the day progressed the wind got stronger and the wind chill got cooler.
First to crack was Frank who after catching naff all packed up and left by 1.15pm. Having earlier had to retrieve his brolly from the pool and his hook from it's entangled position in the landscape!
All other anglers also having not had a bite all day took the decision to pack up, so our match referee (Alan) called the match at 2.00pm.

It was a horrendous day even though there was little snow or ice at Border the water was freezing cold, the fish were nowhere to be seen, no baits worked at all and the wind chill was like being in the Arctic.

Members who chose not to fish will say "Told you so", but we would like to express our thanks to those named below who attempted to challenge the conditions and gave it a flippin' good go, let's hope our next match will be a few degree's warmer.

The results therefore in this mini league will be based on the results from the first match.

Discussions will be taking place to decide what to do for 2014, but you can't fight the weather and the same time last year (2012) we were basking in 18 degrees, good old Britain.

Our next match will be the first of our Spring League where we will be at Cudmore on Arena Pool on Saturday 13th April, let's all pray for decent weather!

Hope to see you on a match soon.
