Winter League - Blundell's Farm - Pine & Willow - 13th October 2012

First match of the 2012-13 season and what a nightmare. We had to hastily reconsider our plans when at the recent Prize Night we had in excess of 20+ anglers wanting to fish.
The problem being our original booking of Pine can only cater for 20, which in previous years was sufficient.
Now we have a dilemma. Club Secretary went to see John Blundell who allowed us eventually to have Pine & Willow.
Here is the bext problem, due to being different pools anglers may think one pool is favoured over another, how could it be a fair match?
Result, we would have a pairs match, one member on each pool, but then can't count in Winter League and Matchman because you couldn't allocate points.
Matchday reality dawns and Saturday morning we had 21 anglers out of the 26 who had said on the Wednesday prior to the match that they were fishing!
During the match two members also decided to bail out, so the pairs match principle had gone out of the window as well!
In the end we treated both pools as seperate matches and awarded points per pool which can and have been allocated in leagues.
This is about as fair as we can get it and this principle is likely to be used for the next match as we have a similar scenario.
Anyway, back to the match. We all arrived at 8.00am (or most did) and the draw was completed with members drawing odd numbers fishing Pine and even numbers fishing Willow. The weather for once was quite pleasant with little breeze and some sun, almost unheard of for us a Blundell's.
The match fished from 10.00 - 3.00 and our luck ran out at 2 O'Clock when the heavens opened for 45 minutes and then stopped as quick as it had started.
The weigh-in was duly completed by Alan & James which took slightly longer having two pools to contend with. Pools payout today was for first and second on each pool so well done to Alan and Paul on Willow and James and Neil on Pine.
We would also like to thank the majority of members for their understanding in what was an unusual scenario, but a pleasant one to have when we have more members wanting to fish.
We still had Golden Peg which today cursed Mark Davies who finished fourth in the match on Pine Pool.
Our next match is only a week away at Cheshire Fishing and as we have organised two pools again to cater for all our anglers, it is likely we will do the match on the same basis, the important thing is we can cater for our members!

That's it for now, hope to see you on a match soon.
