Second of our three Spring League matches took place today. Fortunately the forecast rain held off but a stiff 20 mph South Westerly breeze battered us throughout the match with some stronger gusts in the last couple of hours. Several members had a good dose of windburn after the match!
Everyone arrived promptly, the draw took place and we fished 9.30am to 2.30pm. Members were hoping that the poor day we had here on a Winter League match back in November 2008 would be wiped away today. Unfortunately today even though it was now Spring we didn't fair much better as the weights shown below indicate. The wind conditions didn't help, but we would have expected to see better weights.
A visit to the fishery website has only showed recent winning weights at 13 - 20lb.
We had a new member fish today for the first time and he went out "all guns blazing" and won the match! Welcome to the club Ray and well done.
Mike Lewis drew the Golden Peg, which remained safe with Mike finishing 20th....The curse of the Golden Peg continues.
Not many highlights other than seeing Colin fish his baseball cap out of the pool following a gust of wind. I think his hat weighed more than his fish!
Frank decided to have a sleep due to lack of fish (see match photo gallery).
That's it for now, join us at Border Fishery next weekend on Saturday 16th May for the last of our three Spring League matches. We will then know our first League winner of 2009. The points are close and as they say "anyone can win". See you at Border... |
