Summer League - Ockeridge Lakes 'Oak Pool' - 3rd July 2009

The second match in our Summer League and we are off on our first coach trip.
After a few weeks of wall to wall sunshine and high temperatures, we thought the POHAS luck had struck again, when half way down the M6 the skies were grey and rain began to fall.
Fortunately when we stopped off at 'Greasy Lil's' on the A5 for breakfast it had stopped and the temperature was warming up.
After a hearty breakfast, it was back on the coach for the remainder of our journey in to deepest darkest Worcestershire and arrival at Ockeridge Lakes.
It was only when we got to Ockeridge that one of our merry band of anglers realised that he had left his nets at the bus stop in Warrington!
After much merriment and the purchase of the compulsory fishery pellets by everyone, we sorted out some spare nets, did the draw, and all-in was at 10.30am. The Golden Peg was drawn today by Colin our coach driver, aka 'young Brian'.
For some reason the fish didn't seem particularly interested in feeding, we were lead to believe there was an airation problem. As the time went by, the weather improved with the sun coming out and the air temperature increasing, and slowly the fishing improved.
All-out was at 3.30pm, and the results are shown below.
For most of the match Colin appeared to have secured the Golden Peg and £200. Unfortunately James came along and pipped him at the post.
We've seen this happen many times....One day the Golden Peg will go!
We also had an improvement in 'biggest fish'. John Bryan's catch of 13lb 2oz which gave him 5th place in the match also included a 10lb 10oz Carp. This beats the previous weight this year, also held by John, which was 9lb 8oz caught at Border Fishery on the 16th May during our Spring League.
As is the norm after a match it was off to the pub.
Today we were in the Black Star at Stourport run by Landlord Jez who we have known for a few years. As usual the Beer was good (Luv that Marston's Pedigree), as was the food.
Darren Roby now estabished as 'entertainments manager' on our coach trips organised a game of 'killer pool', whilst some watched Andy Murray get kicked out of Wimbledon by Andy Roddick.
At about 7.45pm and much pleading, Colin 'the driver' dragged us out of the pub and back onto the coach for our trip home.
What a great day it was, fishing with a load of mates, having a laugh and a few beers.
The next match in the series is a car trip to Wrightington which takes place on 25th July where we will be fishing on 'Rivington View'. Hope to see you there...
