Second match into our 'Winter League' and the weather was still like Summer!
Stepped outside the front door at 6.30am this morning and it was 17 degrees.
During the course of today's match it soared up to 20 degrees. Not bad for Mid October. Twenty six members made the trip into Delamere Forest for the match. Another fantastic turnout for this 'Winter match'.
Everyone arrived for the 8.00am meeting time (well most folks did), and Sarah from the fishery had kindly prepared Bacon and Sausage butties which were most welcome, and tasty.
The draw was completed in quick time and the start was set for 10.00am for the five hour duration finishing at 3pm.
'Young Brian' our coach driver aka Colin drew Golden Peg so his day was stuffed from the off!
Fishing today was extremely peggy as you will see from the results below. It was also an incident packed day with Marc F busting his pole before we even started, then dropped his catapult in which got retrieved, also busting his pole today was Rooster Roylance, and who after the match almost bust his mobile phone by slamming it in the tailgate of his car. Sue also bust a shed load of gear today so she was almost fishing with string and a bent paper clip towards the end of the match. To top that Tony managed to hook a duckling, was entertaining watching him trying to disentangle it from his hook, it was a matter of who give in first, the ducks beak or Tony's fingers. Tony won just about.
With us today was past member John 'Bubbles' Burgoyne who we haven't seen for a year or two due to work commitments, but is now back in the fold. A good day for John finishing in a creditable 10th place.
Pegs 18 - 28 today were grim, with only a few silvers making an appearance and little or no Carp. Whereas pegs 8, 9 & 10 were beating them off with a stick. Our eventual winner Mark D fishing about 6ft away from the far bank on pole at a depth of 3ft using double or triple red maggot. Roly in second place (first time in top three for donkey's years) was on the waggler with maggot.
All in all, some had a great day some not.
Thanks to Danny and Sarah at Lloyd's Meadow the new owners, the venue is coming on a treat after some mutch needed TLC, and i'm sure we will have some good matches there in the future.
As hinted earlier in this report, Colin had Golden Peg but was cursed, only managing 13th place (unlucky for Col).
Congratulations to our top three of Mark, Roly and Neil, good sportsmanship as ever between all anglers.
That's it for this match, as ever all the results are below. Next week we move to Partridge Lakes, close to home in Culcheth, let's hope this fine weather holds, but being Britain, probably not.
See you on a match soon.
