4th November 2020 - Angling Trust Covid Update

Latest news for anglers on Covid situation from our sport's governing body, click here for details.

4th November 2020 - Club Match Update

With the 2020 match season being cut short due to Covid restrictions, we have lost out on our last two matches of this year (Fir Tree and Partridge Lakes), we have managed to reschedule the Fir Tree match which is now on 17/04/21, so we have an extra match in our 2021 schedule, some positive news to end our match season on.

3rd November 2020 - Covid Update/Club Matches

Following recent developments regarding Covid-19 and the forthcoming second lockdown starting Thursday 5th November.
It is with great sadness that we have to cancel our two remaining matches in 2020 so as to comply with the latest requirements and to keep everyone safe.
Although there have been various announcements suggesting that angling may still be allowed to continue, we feel that the government stating that outdoor leisure venues are to close, essential travel only for short journeys and only essential shops to be open indicates strongly that our matches should not go ahead.
We hope all our club match anglers understand the reasoning behind this decision.
On the plus side, we have a full schedule of matches lined up and booked for 2021, so let’s all do what we need to do over the coming weeks and look forward to getting together in 2021.

25th October 2020 - Partridge Lakes Clubman 2020 match

Following a conversation at yesterday's Fir Tree match regarding those eligible for Partridge Clubman match this coming Friday. Eligible members have tried to book on and their details not recognised. We spoke with Partridge who acknowledge receipt of information but omitted in error to put it on their database. This is being amended tomorrow. So those eligible (see names below) will be able to sort.
See below extract from an e-mail received off Partridge last evening, which we hope explains proceedings:-

"winners can call up to make payment anytime before Thursday. We are requesting that club winners call and pay their pools money in advance if possible.
There will be a rolling draw from 8am in the car park and the match will begin at 10am and finish at 3pm. All winners will be contacted and paid out in the days after the event and prizes will need to be collected another day. This is to avoid a large gathering from taking place in the café area"

Names eligible also detailed in a post dated 28/08/20 shown earlier in this news feed, they are:-

John Osborne (POHAS) (Won Fur & Feather 23/12/19)

B Harrison (ERB) (Won Covey 6 on DB Match 14/03/20)

Dave Newton (POHAS) (Won Spey on DB Match 14/03/20)

Des Manion (Woolston) (Won Marsh on DB Match 14/03/20)

Phil Clare (POHAS) (Won club match 28/07/20)

20th October 2020 - Next Matches & Covid Situation

Information regarding the next two matches. Fir Tree is a WN postcode therefore from Friday it's a Tier 3 area, Warrington is Tier 2, and Government would prefer people not to travel in and out of different tiers, or as they phrase it, they discourage it, which doesn't make it illegal, many travel for work/business reasons. We understand that match members may choose not to fish, that is the choice of the individual. As far as we are concerned each individual member has the right to choose, you are aware of the world we are in, if you are at the match you have decided to accept the situation and all it entails.
We would point out that we are going to be in a large outdoor area, there is only our club on the water (Fir Water this weekend, New Nooky 7th November). We will have hand sanitizer for members to use, payment by card as we have done previously. Suggest members have masks to hand for draw. Payouts via BACS again, as we have been doing on matches recently. No food available on site, so members can choose how/what they do for refreshments. Shop open for bait, up to individual if they use shop or alternative supplier. Look forward to seeing those who make the trip, be good to hear from you if you are or you're not attending just so as we know. Usual times apply, match to be paid on by 8:45, draw at 9:00 fish 10:30- 15:30.

20th October 2020 -Angling Trust Covid / Club Match Update

In addition to earlier update, we draw your attention to an update posted on Angling Trust website which is partially contradictory, but given government move goal posts every five minutes, not surprising. You will be aware that Fir Tree fishery is a 'WN Postcode', as such is now a 'Tier 3' Covid area and as per the wording you are 'discouraged' to move in and out of different area's, however that doesn't make it illegal and as long as we are covid compliant and do all the social distancing I personally as Paul Bryan don't see an issue.
Both matches at Fir Tree, ie, this weekend and 7th November, we have the waters to ourselves, it is an outdoor space and the Government still deem fishing a low risk activity. See latest Angling Trust statement updated 20/10/20

AT Covid Update

20th October 2020 - Match Update

Further to my last update earlier today, and the demise of our Lloyd's Meadow booking on 7th November.
I'm pleased to be able to say we have managed to book ourselves on Fir Tree, this time on New Nooky, one water we haven't fished before.
I'm told it's the pool Immediately behind the house.
So worry not anglers, we have a match on 7th November, make sure you drive to Fir Tree AND NOT Lloyd's Meadow.

20th October 2020 - Forthcoming Match News

A quick update with good news/bad news.
Match at Fir Tree this Saturday 24th October is good to go ahead so see you members who are fishing at the venue.
We found out last night thanks to a club member advising us, that all club matches at Lloyd's Meadow have been cancelled including ours on Badger Pool which was scheduled for Saturday 7th November.
Spoke to the venue last night and it is correct, no more club matches.
As it stands we haven't got a replacement venue, looking to see what we can get in such a short space of time, so not hopeful, but will keep you informed.
See you on Saturday at Fir Tree.

26th September 2020 - Meetings

Most members will be aware that the monthly club meetings have been curtailed over the last twelve months or so although at least one committee member has been available on the first Thursday of each month for informal meetings.
Now that the rules and regulations through the current Covid-19 situation have become more stringent, committee member availability will for the foreseeable future not be possible, and with our annual AGM imminent in November, this too has suffered the same fate and will not now take place.
We will no longer be able to hold meetings until the Covid-19 situation has relaxed sufficiently for us to continue safely. When we are in a position to hold the AGM safely we will advise.

We would like to reassure members that if any issues arise you can always contact us, details are on this website for phone/e-mail and/or at matches.

We also continue to monitor the situation regarding matches, and as it stands we are able to continue. Should this change we will of course advise members here on our website and also on our Facebook pages.

22nd September 2020 - Covid-19 Match Update

Good evening match members. Following BoJo's announcement today on the never-ending changes to the Covid-19 situation (apologies for my cynicism), we are pleased to say that our weekend match this coming Saturday 26th September is still going ahead at Bradshaw Hall Fishery (Pool 4).
Just to remind everyone all the usual Covid-19 rules apply on site at Bradshaw Hall and it is up to us to follow them. You can see Bradshaw's comments on their website by clicking here
There has also been a press release from the Angling Trust which you can also view by clicking here

So, finally, yes we are fishing, but let's stay vigilant and follow the guidelines,
Covidiots need not attend.
See you Saturday, match payments to be card/contactless as it has been for our recent matches since lockdown, ensure you have paid by 8:45am, draw scheduled for 9:00am with match scheduled for 10:30am start, 3:30pm finish, followed by weigh-in.

19th September 2020 - Forthcoming Match at Bradshaw Hall - 26/09/20

With all the latest updates regarding Covid-19 and government announcements, we are checking that the match can go ahead, as far as we are concerned at present, the match is still on.

Should this need to change, we will advise here on our website and on our Facebook match page.

10th September 2020 - Partridge Lakes Midweek Matches

For those fishing our last midweek match next Tuesday 15th September at Partridge Lakes, it was agreed by attending members on our previous match that so as we can have an optional pools on this and future Partridge midweek matches, members attending can either pay £10 or £13. £10 is the standard fee for all other midweek matches currently and lower peg fee costs allow for a pools payout within that £10. But with Partridge having higher peg fee's to be able to support a payout members from now on will be required to pay £13. As stated this is purely optional and is only for any midweek match held at Partridge Lakes. So going forward, if you pay £10 at Partridge midweek, you won't be eligible for any pools payout should you finish in a match position that warrants it. If you pay £13, you will.

AUGUST 2020

28th August 2020 - Weekend League - Whitmore Fishery

Whitmore - East Canal

Only two weeks to our next weekend match which takes place at Whitmore Fishery near Kirkham, Lancs.
Just a few things to advise members fishing or thinking of fishing:-

We have a maximum of 25 pegs, not expecting to exceed that, but on the off chance, priority would be given to members who have fished with us in 2020.
If you plan to have breakfast, the café is open and tables are socially distanced, no requirement for mask in the café. Please park on car park adjacent to café for brekkie. Bearing in mind match fee’s due no later than 8:45am on East Canal car park. James will be sorting money out as I’m away, so please, as ever, be patient and have your bank/credit card ready.
For those not requiring breakfast or have had breakfast, please drive round to East Canal car park where we will do our match draw.
All matches at Whitmore are run to a schedule so we will be fishing 10.30 – 3.30. There is also an open on the same day and some will be on pegs on East Canal, we have no say in that, so don’t be complaining. The open starts after our match and shouldn’t interfere with our match.
Members attending recent matches will be aware we include two Golden Peg opportunities at the start of each match with a chance if one of them wins to earn an extra £50. Committee have decided that if on a weekend match the Golden Peg isn’t won, all peg numbers at the end of the match will be entered into a draw and the first number out will receive £20 payable by BACS. So chance if GP not won to get a random £20.
Our peg numbers are already known to us, they are 2 – 27 inclusive, but leave out peg 18 or 19 as they are close together. You can see peg locations on photo above.
If your fishing this weekend - tightlines

28th August 2020 - Partridge Lakes Club Match Championship

As many of you will know from an earlier post. Partridge Lakes have announced the date for their Clubman Match which is on Friday 30th October, and is based upon winners of club matches from previous year.
Like most we have had a few less matches due to Covid, but still have names who will be put forward to Partridge Lakes.
We have one match left on Tuesday 15th September for members to be in with a chance of qualifying, so don't miss the opportunity.
So far the following have won matches with POHAS, some from Dogs Bollocks Match back in March who are not POHAS members, but as winners on their pool are eligible, names so far are:-

John Osborne (POHAS) (Won Fur & Feather 23/12/19)

B Harrison (ERB) (Won Covey 6 on DB Match 14/03/20)

Dave Newton (POHAS) (Won Spey on DB Match 14/03/20)

Des Manion (Woolston) (Won Marsh on DB Match 14/03/20)

Phil Clare (POHAS) (Won club match 28/07/20)

Neil Davies (POHAS) (Won club match 15/08/20)

Can I ask Neil Davies if he'd be so kind as to speak with the members of ERB and Woolston and let us have contact numbers which I will need to pass on to Partridge Lakes
There is no peg fee for entrants but there is money required to enter pools (£20), which needs to be paid directly to Partridge Lakes prior to the match taking place, its a matter of ringing up and paying over the phone I believe.

Any match queries, please speak directly to Partridge Lakes.

25th August 2020 - Next Midweek Match

A polite reminder our next match is only a week away.
For you midweek anglers, we are at Moss Farm, Irlam next Tuesday 1st September.
For your information bait shop is not open, so you will need to get bait before you arrive for the match.
The cafe is open and they bring your order to your peg apparently.
See you there, don't forget 'cashless only', payment by card is the only way to pay.

10th August 2020 - Jolly Boys Outing 2020

For many years now a group of members have had a few days away each year which has become known as the Jolly Boys outing as it usually is!
This year was no different, eight of us, fewer than normal for various reasons went off to Bewdley last week for a spot of fishing/drinking.
A good time was had by all, the weather for the most part was warm with a couple of showers but nothing to write home about.
Monday was a pleasure fishing day as members arrived at different times, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday we had matches arranged on Monkhall, Elmbridge and Hillview respectively.

Interesting factoid: Average catch weight for 2020 Jolly Boys was 233lb, same time last year it was 203lb, bearing in mind seven fished this year and ten fished last year the averages are not dissimilar.

5th July 2020 - Weekend League - Brookside Match

After a long lay off we are finally back fishing matches!
Yesterday sixteen members arrived for what was our first club match in this 2020 season.
Lots of changes, several due to COVID-19 of course and some to improve matches. You will see more details on yesterday's match report and on our matches page for future reference.

Many thanks to all those members who have text us, messaged us, e-mailed us with positive comments since yesterday's match about the way they are now run and the format we have set up (after much discussion).
It really is appreciated by myself and Frank our Chairman in particular and to James Bryan who has been helping out on the technical side.

29th June 2020 - Brookside Match

Morning all, only a few days away from our first club match, hope you match members are looking forward to it.
Just a few points:-
Firstly as said previously, bear with us on Saturday as we are in a new world now and we have to adhere to Boris' rules and regs, so things may take a while longer, appreciate your patience.
Secondly, if you can pay by card, ideally contactless, that would be good, cash as a last resort.
See adjacent fishery rules, click on image for a larger version which will ask to save as 'Brookside.pdf'.
See you at the venue around 8:30am.
We hope to fish the match from 10:30-3:30. Any queries, let us know by whichever method you prefer.
Finally don't forget to check that your Rod Licence is valid, and any angler who hasn't yet got a 2020/21 Club Licence, you can either order them here online
, or we will have some with us, so you can purchase on the day.
Brookside Fishery Rules

25th June 2020 - Brookside Fishery - FIRST MATCH OF 2020

Good evening all. We're pleased to announce that we WILL be having a club match on Saturday 4th July 2020 as listed on website and in 2020/21 club licences at Brookside.
As you will appreciate we are having to comply with Covid-19 rules and requirements, so on the day, we will greatly appreciate the patience of members whilst we all get used to the new procedures. Current plan is to arrive at Brookside main car park (the first one off main road, not the one by the pools) for 8.30am. The match is expected to fish from 10.30-3.30pm. We respect anyone who may not want to fish for obvious reasons, and all who do, do so at their own risk.
We will however take whatever precautions we can. One of those precautions is that we can, and would prefer card payments, which can be Visa Debit/Credit, Mastercard, Amex and of course contactless.

As you can imagine we have a few thinks to sort, so this first match may have it's delays, but we hope you understand the reasons why. At least we are all getting back on the water. If anyone has any queries, message us, ring us, happy to answer any questions (if we can). Oh, and lastly, don't forget to check your Rod Licence is valid and goes without saying you need a 2020/21 club licence, which if you haven't got, you can get via club website, or we'll have some with us on the day.

2nd June 2020 - Match Update

Good evening anglers, following a post on 28th May reference our 'potential' match at Partridge Lakes on Tuesday 16th June. Our Chairman Frank Davies had a meeting with Partridge Lakes management earlier today.
Unfortunately the conclusion was that social distancing for individuals and group from club, staff and others could not be guaranteed therefore the match will not go ahead, we're sorry but the health and wellbeing of all concerned is priority and a critical requirement.
We are aware that Partridge are running their matches, but to coordinate their matches with club matches at this stage cannot guarantee safety.
We will keep you posted here and via our Facebook pages about future matches.
As it stands matches until the end of June are cancelled and matches after that continuously reviewed as we get updates.

Stay safe, look forward to seeing you all soon.

MAY 2020

28th May 2020 - Match Opportunity

Evening members, hope you are all well. Something for our matchmen to consider and reply to please. As many of you may be aware Partridge Lakes have this week resumed their open matches with a stringent Covid-19 procedure in place to ensure they, their staff and visitors comply with and benefit from. We were scheduled to have a midweek match on Tuesday 16th June on Covey 5 which at present is cancelled. Partridge have said that if we 'the club' send an email detailing all of the safety precautions that we would be taking to ensure social distancing is respected from start to finish, the match could go ahead. At this stage we are looking to see who would be interested in fishing and if anyone on the day would be happy to coordinate with Partridge to ensure the smooth running of the match and compliance with Covid-19 requirements.. We still need to see what requirements we need to meet, how we do the draw, weigh-in and payment, so at this stage it is just a talking point, but would value anglers comments and more importantly if we can get organised who would want to fish? Over to you good people!
Visit our contact page for phone numbers and e-mail address details, or click here.

23rd May - Club Match Update

It may come as no surprise, but unfortunately due to Covid-19 we have had to cancel more matches.
All club matches now up to the end of June 2020 have been cancelled.
When we are in a position to restart and of course reschedule matches we will update here on our website and via our Facebook pages.

Our matches page has been updated showing the amendments.

In the meantime, stay safe folks and enjoy your pleasure fishing.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
As everyone is well aware COVID-19 is affecting all walks of life including our sport of angling.
From 13th May 2020, UK government has advised that anglers can once again return to the bank, however the need for social distancing needs to be maintained along with all other existing guidelines detailed on NHS England.
Our Pool at Brownlee's is open for current members from the above date, but the Covid-19 measures must be adhered to at all times by everyone on Brownlee's site and is the responsibility of each member to do so.
As you will know this area is also a public right of way, so please respect people passing through the area whilst you are there.

22nd March 2020 - Forthcoming Matches / COVID-19

Following recent events, POHAS committee with heavy hearts have cancelled next weekend’s match at Partridge Lakes (28th March).
Given the seriousness of the COVID-19 virus and the measures that have been put in place, it would be irresponsible for us to continue with our fishing matches.
We will continue to review the situation and as other matches come up, the next being at the end of April, we will advise accordingly through our facebook page and our website.
We are all in this complicated, uncertain and rapidly changing situation together, and we encourage everyone to look out for each other.  At POHAS the safety and welfare of members, family and friends is paramount.
