Hard to believe but another year is almost over and from a club point of view another great year having fished with some good mates at good fisheries, the membership is healthy our Juniors are doing well and we have renovated our Brownlee's Pool for the benefit of all of our members which will last for many years to come.
2013 is going to be another great year and is our club's 30th Anniversary year with we hope some suprises in store and events to commemorate our 30 years as an angling club.
It only remains for us to say to all of our members and families, stay safe and have a very prosperous and happy 2013, we will see you again in the new year. |

| Before everyone bowls headlong into the Christmas festivities, we thought it time to wish all our members, their families and all the people that support us, from our local pub, fisheries and their managers, tackle shops. | 21st December 2012 - Morrison's Bag Pack |

Junior and Senior members gathered at our local Morrison's Store yesterday evening to conduct what has become our annual bag pack. All the money raised from this event goes towards our Junior Development Fund which is used solely for our Junior members and helps us to continue providing free matches to encourage more Junior members from our local community to take up fishing and also goes towards funding free tackle and equipment we give out to our Junior members at our annual prize night which takes place every October.
As usual we bag packed from 5pm until 8pm last night and raised a total of £266.40 which is excellent in such a short space of time and given that people in general have less disposable income.
We would like to thank Morrison's for allowing us to do the bag pack in particular Store Manager Mark Roberts, checkour supervisors Steph and Liz and all the checkout staff, of course the Morrison's customers who gave so generously and our members who gave up their evening on what was a diabolical night weather wise with heavy rain. Our members in no particular order were Frank Davies, Paul and James Bryan, Ken Whibley, Joe and Ollie Maddock, Matt Sutch, Kieran and Leon Charnock, Alex Donaldson, and Ed and Jordan Mahoney. Thanks also to parents for ferrying the Juniors back and to the store.

| Thanks to all those who purchased a raffle ticket in our Christmas Raffle. Congratulations to our winners who by now will have received their prizes as the raffle was drawn last Saturday evening at our local pub the Maltings. Many thanks to those who bought tickets, those who sold tickets and to those who donated the prizes, finally to Chris, Brenda and Rod at the Maltings for supporting our event, special thanks to Tommy Horan and the regulars at Bank Quay club who alone purchased one hundred tickets. Overall we raised £247.00 which goes to support the work we do with our Junior members, so thanks from everyone at POHAS for your continued support. |

This Saturday sees the last in our Winter League matches and also the last match for 2012, so it's our last hurrah for 2012.
Traditionally this is our Fur & Feather match, so members, if you are interested in fishing, get in touch quick.
As is usual at this match there is a carvery available at the Walton Arms pub after the match, so as mentioned above if you are thinking of fishing, you need to let us know so as we can organise the event.

We are pleased to announce that the decking upgrade at our Brownlee's Pool is now complete. As you can see above and even more so when you visit, the site looks excellent, particularly with the Autumn colours on the trees.
We still have a couple of bits we want to do, but it is now ready for you anglers! We hope you enjoy the updated layout and we look forward to seeing you members there soon.

| 11th November 2012 - Happy Birthday Chairman |

It's been a bit of a hectic weekend for our Club Chairman Frank Davies.
He retired on Friday, he's in the process of having three parties incorporating his 65th Birthday which actually is tomorrow.
No signs of slowing up then!
Last night Frank along with several members of the club celebrated in our local pub The Maltings.
You can see to the right Frank reading a card signed by many members of the club along with a gift of £100 of vouchers for him to spend on whatever he chooses.
It's fair to say for once, Frank was lost for words, and those that know him will realise that doesn't happen very often.
All the best Frank from everyone in POHAS we hope you and Angela enjoy a long and happy retirement.

As promised at the beginning of this week, we will be celebrating our 30 year anniversary in 2013 and to celebrate this we are going to do a one-off run of club clothing with a special 30th logo.

| 9th November 2012 - Matchman League |

Just to advise members that the above league has had the scoring revised.
Due to the fact that Winter League matches this year are split scores, ie, effectively two matches with two 1st's, two 2nd's etc in each match, we had applied same points to Matchman as we have on Winter League, this is incorrect. The matchman is based on highest weights from 10 points down to 1 point irrespective of points awarded in Winter league. We have therefore amended the Matchman league to correctly reflect this. The Winter League remains unaffected. See here latest league. |

The construction of our new decking at our Brownlee's Pool continues.
You can see above the restraining boards going into place. After they are complete the ground is to be backfilled and a compacted surface will be added. Which will be more robust and long lasting.
If everything goes to plan work is due for completion tomorrow. We will of course keep you updated via this website. |

Well we have spoken about it for long enough and today's the day when it eventually happened.
Yes, some of the old decking at Brownlee's has now been ripped up and is to be replaced with hard standing which will last a lifetime and be better to fish from without getting snagged in the chickenwire.
The process may take up to two weeks, but it will be well worth it.

| 23rd October 2012 - Brownlee's Pool Construction Begins! |

As mentioned here in the news on the 2nd October.
We can confirm that work will begin on replacing some of the decking structures on our Brownlee's Pool from Thursday 25th October 2012.
Length of time is not known, but to advise members if you wish to fish we would suggest using our Whitegate Pool while the construction work is underway.
Keep checking the website as we will update our news when there is more to report.
We would like to thank members for their patience whilst this work is carried out, we hope you understand that once complete the area will be much better for everyone, visitors and anglers alike. |

Last Friday saw another full house at Roosters Club, Warrington with club members and their family and friends in attendance to see the annual award of trophies and of course all the other entertainment during the course of the evening. Congratulations to all the winners and to those who attended to Mark and the staff of Roosters for looking after us all and to our sponsors some of whom were able to make the event, including, Chris Strike landlord of the Maltings Pub and Paul Brittlebank of PB Home Maintenance.
It was another great night full of fun and we will be doing it all again on 4th October 2013. So if you are a member and you missed it, put a date in your diary for next year. If you are not a member, get in touch we are always happy to accept new members, whether you are a match angler, pleasure angler or just want a dabble, everyone is welcome. Now is a good time as we have reduced rates for club licences for the remainder of the current licence period (until 15/03/13). Get in touch via the contact us button either telephone or e-mail.

Yes, it's only three days away until we get to present the trophies to this years winners, and of course have some fun at the same time.
So if you are a club member and you fancy an entertaining evening out, come along to Roosters Club for 7.30pm on Friday 5th October, programme is due to start at 8.00pm. We will have all of our usual raffles, quiz, bingo etc and hot food will be served at about 9.00pm. Entrance fee for adults is £5 which includes the hot food and entrance for Junior members is free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Look forward to seeing you there! |

Notice to all members. We have been advised by our contractor that the decking replacement due to take place at our Brownlee's Pool is forecast to happen during the last two weeks of October.
So if you are planning a fishing trip to Brownlee's around that time, let us know and we will be able to advise if the pool is open or closed for the decking upgrade.
Of course everything is also weather dependant, so check with us to save any wasted journeys. |

As we are now half way through the year as far as our licences go, we have added an incentive for you Winter fishermen (and women), by reducing the cost of our 2012/13 club licence for the remainder of the licence period (ends 15th March 2013). So Senior licences are now £8 instead of £15, OAP's £5 instead of £10 and Juniors are £3 instead of £5. WHAT A BARGAIN!

Members, don't forget our annual Presentation Night is almost upon us.
As usual it takes place at Roosters Club, Warrington on Friday 5th October 2012. All members welcome, cost per person is £5 Adults, Juniors (inc Brothers & Sisters aged 16 and under) are free entry. Hot food is also being served and is included in entrance fee.
We do hope you can come along and join in the fun. Suggested arrival time is 7.30pm, the evening usually concludes at 10.30pm (normal licencing hours apply).

| 24th September 2012 - CADG Senior Team Match |

Two teams from our Seniors along with six other teams from across Cheshire met at Border Fishery, Crewe yesterday to contest a team match organised by the members of CADG (Cheshire Angling Development Group).
This was the first time a match had been arranged for Seniors and a tough day it was. With overnight temperatures in low single figures and a daytime temperature not exceeding about nine degree's it was difficult for everyone. However after five gruelling hours POHAS 1 beat the opposition to take the honours, our second team finishing in seventh position also did us proud. Below you can view/download the results. | 3rd September 2012 - NJAA National 2012 Stainforth & Keadby Canal |
| |
You will recall in the news at the end of August we announced that two of our Junior members were due to fish the above match as part of the Cheshire Angling Development Group team, the match taking place on Saturday 1st September.
The eventual winners were Warrington Anglers so congratulations to them.
The CADG team finished in eighth place (ten teams contested the match).
However Jordan Mahoney fished in the reserves match which he won with a weight of 820 grammes. So well done to Jordan, also to Ethan Neary our other Junior member fishing that day, and of course to everyone involved for what appeared to be a great day's fishing. Finally thanks to Martin James of CADG for his assistance and attendance on the day.

| 2nd September 2012 - Lammy the Record Breaker! |

Congratulations to club member extraordinaire Alan Lamb who smashed the club's match record weight yesterday at Solhampton Fishery in Worcestershire.
If you haven't read yesterdays report Alan was one of seventeen members fishing one of our Summer League matches.
The previous record which had lasted several years was 98lb held by past club member Ian Armstrong.
Yesterday Alan blitzed that with a total weight of 179lb 2oz in our usual five hour match.
In total Alan had six nets in the water to contain his catch and he didn't stop catching from the all-in to the all-out.
We would like to congratulate Alan on this fantastic achievement, well done 'The Laminator'. |

Along with members from other Cheshire clubs they will be contesting this weekends forthcoming 54th Annual NJAA National Match at Stainforth & Keadby Canal, Thorne near Scunthorpe with clubs from all over the UK in attendance.

Just to update members that we are expecting decking replacement work to take place during the month of October, which will see some of the old structures being removed and replaced.

| 9th August 2012 - CADG Junior Team Match |

Six of our Junior members battled it out yesterday on the River Weaver, Hartford, Northwich along with four other clubs as part of the CADG Team match competition.
It was always going to be tough particularly as we don't generally fish Rivers. For once the weather was absolutely brilliant with more or less wall to wall sunshine and a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius which is 75 degrees Fahrenheit, no wind to speak of, only a few rowers from the local club to deal with and occasional canal boat.
Well done to everyone who fished particularly our team of Steven, Tom, Kieran, Leon, Matt & Ed, also to all the other teams and their supporters. Lastly to Frank and Angela who ran the BBQ whilst your editor was off taking photo's.
Well done to Prince Albert who won, to see all the results go to the CADG website.

On the subject of Work Parties, whilst our chief photographer was on his hols, club members Frank Davies and James and John Bryan planted up the recently introduced floating Island at Brownlee's.
Avid members and viewers of this website may recall that we installed the island at the beginning of July with the assistance of our local Environment Agency friends. Now it looks good with the plants added which will soon grow and develop on the island. |

| 3rd August 2012 - Whitegate Work Party |

Many thanks to club members Frank Davies, James Bryan, Paul Morris, Stephen Tatlock and Ken Whibley for lending a hand last night at our Whitegate Pool.
Hedges were trimmed and a mass of blanket weed which was beginning to choke large areas of the pool were removed along with some of the water lilies.
Long term the lilies are receiving treatment which should over time vastly reduce their prolific growth across the pool and spoiling fishing for our members.
Thanks also to club member and bailiff Ian Maddock who wasn't available this evening, but who also spent a few hours during the week removing weed from the pool.
Work parties will continue and additional works will be carried out on both of our pools. |

Backlog of news following your editors two week holiday.
At our last Summer match at Heronbrook where our papperazzi was absent, club member Kev Smith decided to lean a bit too far forward on his peg and took a dive into the murky waters, trashing his mobile phone and losing some of his catch in the process.
Whilst our paperazzi was absent club member Paul Morris was on hand to record Kev preparing to exit the water. As ever Kev took it well and here's the evidence for all to see. |

| 7th July 2012 - Brownlee's Floating Island |

Today members of the Environment Agency came along to Brownlee's Pool and with willing club members constructed two floating islands which are new features aimed at giving cover for the fish and extra features for anglers to fish to.
In due course the island will be planted and over time will look like a natural feature.
We must thank club members James and John Bryan, Alan Lamb, Brian Gort, Alex Donaldson (and Dad), plus the two Ian's from the EA.

Sad news, our trusted BBQ after several years good service and a few repairs later, has finally bit the dust and gone to the great BBQ in the sky.
GOOD NEWS - We have a nice spangly new one (see picture).
So Juniors, on our next match on Saturday, not only have we a new chef (Angela), we also have new cooking equipment.

| 2nd July 2012 - Garbolino Club Angler 2012 |

You may recall in an earlier news item, club member Alan Lamb qualified for the final of Garbolino Club Angler 2012, which was held at Lindholme Lakes on Friday 29th June. Forty five anglers battled it out in the final for the title and the chance to win a £2,500 Garbolino Pole and cash prize as well.
Whilst Alan sadly didn't win, he managed a section win to earn himself £50 and of course the knowledge that he had competed in a prestigious final. With him on the day offering support and advise was club member and close friend of Alan, James Bryan. Well done Al from everyone associated with POHAS and thanks to James for his support.
We don't have all the results as they will be published in Match Fishing magazine. But well done from us all. |

A strange request but we are hoping club members may be able to help.
We will soon be adding a Floating Island to our pool at Brownlee's as a valuable feature to fish to.
Part of the construction requires a quantity of the small plastic pop bottles usually about 500ml size, typically Coke, Fanta etc.
If any club members get through these size bottles, we would appreciate it if you could save the empties and let us know. We require approximately two bin bags full, so you can see that is quite a few bottles. If you can help, contact us and let us know. Please note bigger sizes are NOT REQUIRED. |

We know it's hard to believe but it is Summer and it is time for our Junior Summer League.
It all starts on Saturday 9th June at Brownlee's Pool. Meet a 9am, the draw will be at 9.15am and the match will fish from 10.00 - 1.00. If you haven't fished our matches before we will be doing our almost legendary BBQ and there will be soft drinks available all free to Junior members. If you are not a member yet, tut tut where have you been? As this is the first match, you can join/renew on the day before this match only.

| 22nd May 2012 - CADG Junior Spring League - Prince Albert AS |
| |
|
The fourth and final Cheshire Junior Spring League match took place last Sunday, this time the hosts were Prince Albert Angling Society and we were on one of their waters at Allostock called Sand & Dovemere.
The weather today was the best we have had for this series with blue skies sun and a pleasant warm Spring day, worthy weather for the final match. In the end Northwich took the team award and Tom Heron from Prince Albert took the individual award. Our Juniors battled hard throughout the series and Ethan Neary finished in a creditable eighth place in the individual standings. Well done to all of our team, in alphabetical order,Alex, Ethan, Jordan, Liam, Matt, Ollie, Steven and Tom.
Also many thanks to the parents who have helped and supported our team and to club officials who have also given up their time to help with the running of matches, they are Frank, Paul, Ken, James and John. None of this would have been possible without everyones help so thanks to you all. Not forgetting all CADG members for their efforts in getting this inaugural series off the ground

Congratulations to club member Alan Lamb who on behalf of POHAS fished in the Northern qualifier of the Garbolino Club Angler competition.
Today Alan fished along with 90+ other club anglers with the aim of qualifying for the final at Lindholme which takes place at the end of June.
Today's qualifier was at Woodlands Lakes near Thirsk.
We're pleased to say that Alan finished in a creditable 11 place and got a section win, but more importantly qualified for the final.
Well done to Alan and we appreciate you representing our club.

The third of four matches for our Junior team took place last Sunday on Meridian Canal at Border Fishery and was contested between Bay Malton, Northwich, Prince Albert Warrington Anglers and ourselves. Bay Malton were the hosts for today's match. Well done to our team, Ethan, Steven, Tom, Liam, Jordan, Alex and Matt.
As you will see from the results our team was =1st, so a great job by the lads, and well done to Ethan getting 2nd place in the individual results. | 29th April 2012 - CADG Junior Spring League - Bridgewater Canal |
| |
The second of four matches for our Junior team took place today on the Bridgewater Canal and contested between Bay Malton, Northwich, Prince Albert Warrington Anglers and ourselves. Warrington were the hosts for today's match. The weather was abysmal with driving rain a stiff breeze with a wind chill of minus one degree centigrade. Not only were the fishing skills tested but also the ability to cope with the extreme conditions. The match was due to fish 11.00am until 3.00pm, but due to the weather the match was halted at 1.30pm. Thanks to our team of Juniors Tom, Steven, Alex and Liam and to all the other clubs, representatives and parents who toughed it out today.

| 24th April 2012 - CADG Junior Spring League - Trent & Mersey Canal |

A team of six Juniors from our club took part in a new Spring League series organised by the Cheshire Angling Development Group.
Other teams from Northwich, Warrington, Bay Malton and Prince Albert took part in the event which was the first in a series of four matches taking place during April and May.
The event was organised to help forge links between clubs and encourage our Juniors in the sport and get them used to team events and of course to give them more competitions to enjoy.
Although the weather wasn't ideal with rain, hail and a stiff breeze, it picked up later in the day and more importantly all those involved enjoyed the event and are looking forward to the second match which takes place this coming Sunday on the Bridgewater Canal, this time hosted by Warrington Anglers.
Thanks to all those who took part including Anglers, Officials, Parents and the helpers which made the event run smoothly.
The league is currently headed by Northwich Anglers and when we get the results through we will post here on our website.

Many anglers both members and non-members are now becoming more and more aware of the environment that in general they enjoy whilst fishing the length and breadth of the UK. That goes for all types of fishing from Coarse, to Carp, Specimen, Fly Fishing, Sea Fishing and any other variants available to today's angler.
In many respects the Angler is also the eyes and ears of the environment and all of us should be aware of what's going on outside of our front door.
With this in mind we have pulled together some information extracted from other websites to whom we have asked consent and to whom we are greatful, which details in particular non-native and invasive species which are having a negative effect on our environment, you can read more on our 'eco page' and even more at the NNSS website from where the information was extracted. We have added a button on the side of most of our web pages for convenience.

| 2nd April 2012 - Environment Agency Rod Licence |

A polite reminder to all anglers wether you are a club member or not, don't forget that to fish anywhere in the UK you require a valid Environment Agency Rod Licence. The latest 2012/13 issue came into effect from yesterday 1st April and lasts until 31st March 2013. Please make sure you are up to date, as failure to provide evidence when asked by an EA officer you could be subject to a fine up to £2,500.
Don't think they won't get you, because we know of people who have.
You can click on either the Post Office or 'EA; image and you will go direct to the Post Office website where you can purchase your licence and find out more information.
You can of course also visit your local Post Office branch, where they will be happy to help. |

| 19th March 2012 - Litter Problem |

To all members, we have been seeing litter occuring on our pools recently which we would like to see either taken home or deposited in bins that are available on site for convenience.
The last instance being bread scattered as you can see from the photograph, this was at Brownlee's last Friday. Whilst we understand that this could have been done by anyone we would like to think that everyone has enough common sense to take away litter or dispose of in a proper manner. Certainly leaving food waste is not going to help and causes environmental issues. So please, take your litter home, or if you see anyone dumping or leaving litter, get in touch and let us know. Thank you. |

| 17th March 2012 - Winter Drizzler 2 - Lymm Dam |
| |
To say this match was disappointing is an understatement. The day started fine after what was a rubbish weather report saying heavy rain and looking out of the window at 6am to see heavy rain, the thought was to go back to bed, however by 6.30am the rain had stopped, the car was loaded and by 7.40am we were at Lymm Dam with broken cloud, blue skies appearing and some sun with little or no breeze, the day seemed to improve. After a sausage sandwich at the butty bar (thanks Kev), the day was improving...... All-in was whenever you were ready, and all-out was at 2.30pm. There isn't a match report as such as there was nothing to report on but five hours of no fish and no bites! Only one person caught that was Colin our coach driver who had a single one pound Bream. An absolute disaster of a day, don't think we will be going back any time soon, it appears as though the only thing catching fish has been the Cormorants.
That's it, next match see's the start of our Spring League which starts on 14th April at Highfield Fishery and then on 28th April we have our final Winter Drizzler at Lloyd's Meadow. | 13th March 2012 - Fishery Update |

Yet again bailiff Ian Maddock has reported in today that this morning on Brownlee's was again a good time to be fishing.
Within the space of two hours he caught thirty two fish of which twenty two were Crucian Carp.
Given the quite mild conditions we have had and look to continue for the remainder of the week we would expect the fish in both of our pools to become more active.
So if you have a little time on your hands, get down to one of the pools and try your hand, if at Brownlee's maybe pellet on the bottom.
Don't forget licences need renewing from Friday 16th March, prices same as last year, £15 for Adults, £10 OAP's and £5 for Juniors (aged 16 or under on 16/03/12). Available on-line at no extra charge via our shop and pay securely with PayPal, you don't have to have a PayPal account to order.
You can of course also see one of our bailiffs at the pools, so take your money with you.
No money or "I left my licence at home" or "I spoke to **** he said I could fish". Sorry, you will be asked to leave in fairness to all of our members who stay within the rules (off our soapbox now). |

An eagle eyed member has spotted a typographical error in our new licence.
On pages 20/21 which shows the Senior Matches, under the heading of Summer Sizzlers we have mistakenly left in the 2011 dates instead of entering the 2012 dates. Apologies for this oversight, copies of licences awaiting issue have been amended. The correct dates are of course shown on our matches page here on our website. Well spotted Lea! |

Whilst we are a couple of weeks away from the official start date for the new 2012-13 club licence, we can advise that the licence is available now on-line from our shop.
Prices are the same as last year, £15 Adult, £10 OAP and just £5 for Juniors. There isn't a closed season so you can fish all year round which works out to a little over 4 pence a day for an adult member. Value for money or what!
Don't forget we restocked both of our pools in November and we have already had catch reports from members saying how the fishing has improved and we are still in Winter.
To get you licence on-line at no extra cost, click on the shop button and order your licence safely via our secure shop. Payment goes via PayPal, but you do not need a PayPal account to purchase.

Important note to our match fishing members. Due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to revise two of our matches in this years Summer League. The dates affected are 14th July and 4th August. Originally we were going to Lindholme Lakes on 14th July and Heronbrook on the 4th August. These have now been swapped around, so it's Heronbrook on 14th July and Lindholme Lakes on 4th August.
Apologies for the inconvenience but we had no control over the matter and the above is the best conclusion we could achieve. This change has been applied to our matches page, and of course will appear in the forthcoming 2012/13 club licence. |

News from bailiff Ian Maddock who was fishing on our Whitegate pool last Friday morning. He tells us it was a good mornings fishing with a few good sized Roach and seventeen of our new Carp in the space of a couple of hours!
Good to see the Carp have settled in.
The Carp were on the bottom and caught on pellet.
So if you are a member with some spare time, it may be worth a trip to Whitegate for a spot of fishing.
