Fifteen of our match members today for this match which it appears was the hottest day of the year with temperatures nudging 30 degrees Celsius, certainly was a warm one!
Members arrived by 8.00am, many going for a stroll to see the lay of the land/water!
James organised the pegging and the draw took place at 8.30am.
It was a sombre affair as the previous Saturday one of our members Paul Rowlands aka 'Roly' passed away after a short illness and was only 54 years old, a terrible thing to happen to such a great bloke who, if you are or have been a club member during the last 20+ years you will certainly have known Roly for his quick humour and his on the spot ability to parody a known song and add 'fishing lyrics' to it. He will be sadly missed, and this match was a tribute to him.
RIP Roly.
We agreed that a one minutes silence would take place immediately prior to the all-in which was to sound at 10.00am with the match fishing the scheduled five hours, to finish at 3.00pm.
The one minutes silence was honoured by all those in attendance at 09:59, followed by a round of applause by many. The whistle then sounded at 10:00 for the start of the match.
The air temperature and humidity began to rise throughout the day and the breeze was light most of the day.
From the off all members began to catch, many, continuously throughout the match, as will be seen from the weights.
Everyone had a good day and without checking records, must be one of the highest total weights for a while for fifteen anglers, with a total of 977lb being caught averaging to just over 65lb per angler. Not bad at all!
No significant incidents today, just a damn good day. Well done to all those that fished, hard luck to Kev who drew Golden Peg and wound up in ninth place, so the GP goes on.
Congrats to our top three of Dave, Mick and Mark, our next match is a midweek match on 2nd July at Blundells, if you are not on that, we have a Summer match on 27th July at Weston Pools, so hope to see you on one of our matches soon.
