First match of the new 2018/19 season and first match in our 2018 Winter League, today it actually felt like Winter.
Arriving at the fishery at 7.30am we were greeted with heavy dew and in places light frost.
Clear blue skies and a mist over the pools looked very nice, but with hindsight, the overnight cool temperture could have knocked the fish off as we would find out later.
James and Adam sorted the pegging, Frank and me (papperazzi) sorted out peg fee's and pools money. Everyone was ready to draw for 8.30am, we had eighteen members keen to get fishing.
All-in was sounded at 10.00am for the usual five hour match, as the morning progressed the sun warmed up and for those in the sun it was a pleasant day, for those in shade it remained a tad parky!
Today's recipient of Golden Peg was Mark Davies, unsurprisingly the 'curse of the golden peg' remains. Mark struggled and also lost a section of pole in the pool for his efforts. Didn't help being on peg 13!
By the end of the day it was a pleasant 16 degree's and a very light breeze.
3.00pm the whistle sounded for the end of match, James with the help of Mark D and Adam did the weigh-in. As mentioned earlier the weights we felt were down on what they should have been, the overnight temperature probably being the cause.
Congrats to all who fished especially top three Dave N, Mark W and James B, hard luck to Mark D on golden peg who still managed a creditable fourth place, but unfortunately the £200 prize stays in the bank and we'll wait to see if it gets won on the next match, which is in two weeks time at Hall Lane fishery. All results shown below.
Hope to see you all again on the next match.
Tightlines!
