Summer League - Boddington Reservoir - Pegs 1-25 - 29/07/17

This match report has been kindly compiled by club member Adam Hill.

"The second coach trip of the year saw us make the long journey to Boddingtons Reservoir in Byfield, Northamptonshire, with high expectations and a considerable amount of bait. It was another early start with Colin and his "brand new" 2004 reg coach arriving at The Hoop to pick us up shortly after 05:30. We headed for the usual haunt of the A5 truckstop for breakfast, which was as efficient as ever and set us all up nicely for the day of bagging and Ton weights ahead... (or so we thought!) We arrived at the venue just after 9 o'clock, the gear was soon unloaded before the draw took place. Today we only had a 17 anglers fishing so our 25 peg allowance made it perfect for peg 2, miss 1 to give everyone abit more space. Pegs 1 & 2 were the stand out flyers, with the lower the peg number the better, ideally. This is evident in the results as the high peg numbers just didn't compete. Compared to normal, it was quite a late 'all in' with us fishing from 11:00 - 16:00 The weather was pleasant, mostly overcast with a few sunny spells. There was also a persistent wind blowing towards our end of the lake, which we were optimistic amount. Anyway, to cut a long story short, it fished really hard with no-one really able to catch consistently, it was mainly just in fits and start for those lucky enough to find some carp. There were a variety of tactics used today from the feeder, bomb, waggler and some brave souls even set up a pole line. Bait of choice seemed to be pellet, groundbait with some also giving boilies a go. After the final hooter, the weigh-in was conducted which was surprisingly quick and easy due to the low catches and the results can be found below. Well done to the top 3; Ken, Alan and Kev on a difficult day for everyone. Commiserations to Frank Davies who was the latest unfortunate soul to have Golden Peg and the curse struck again with Frank chucking back some decent roach for a DNW against his name. In his words the day was an "absolute disaster". We then headed for a much needed drink (and some food) at The Barley Mow in Banbury...that is once we eventually found it after a postcode malfunction. The place was alright and food was good, so it's another option if were ever in or around that area for future coach trips. On the way home Frank took over the traditional "Thoughts of the Day" duties in Roly's absence. Compared to usual standards it was a relatively sombre and quiet journey home and we arrived back at The Hoop later than usual at 10:15pm. On a positive note, not long to wait for us all to make amends. The next summer league match is next Saturday, 5th August at Blake Hall on Peninsula Lake."
