Second of three matches in this year's Spring League, today we were close to home in Irlam on Blundell's Farm.
As mentioned previously we have a slight change in that we have an 'A' and a 'B' league this year due to number of anglers being catered for. 'A' for the match anglers and 'B' for the more leisurely angler, only two contested 'B' today and winner took all.
We had twenty seven anglers on the match, many of whom turned up at the local cafe at 7.30am for breakfast. We were delayed waiting for food so arrived a little later than usual at Blundells.
James and Alan went off to sort the pegging whilst myself and Neil D sorted peg and pools money.
Given the earlier delay the match today was fished from 10.30 - 3.30.
Typical British weather we had four seasons in one day! Firstly a thunderstorm passed close by, then throughout the day we had sun, rain, hail, wind and calm, so presenting wasn't an easy task. Bit of a mix today regards methods, our eventual winner I believe mainly used the pole, whilst Mike in third place stuck to the rod.
Weights were suprisingly low, not only on our match but matches on other pools were the same. Given that midweek had seen weights up to 100lb. Today we struggled, however air temperatures had dropped throughout the remainder of the week and today the rain and hail would have caused rapid cooling.
We also had a visit from the Environment Agency who came along to check rod licences, there were no issues with our members, it is however a reminder to anyone fishing that it pays to have a valid rod licence, otherwise expect the consequences.
Back to the match, and you can see that it was a struggle from the results shown below, quite a few 'DNW's', some anglers departing before the conclusion of the five hours.
The remaining anglers battled through and the results sre below for all to see.
Well done to all who fished, conratulations to Mark D, Rob and Mike R our top three from group 'A', and to Mike L and Sue in group 'B'.
Golden Peg today was Ken who with 10lb 12oz didn't have enough to win and get the £200 on offer, the curse continues.
Not only did Mark D win the match he has also taken over with biggest fish so far this season with a very nice 11lb 2oz Carp which beats the previous weight of 10lb 8oz by Lea Charnock who has held this since our Winter match at Lloyd's Meadow on 31st October 2015. We'll wait and see if this gets superceded during the remainder of this Spring League and the forthcoming Summer League.
Next match is at Partridge Lakes in two weeks, look forward to seeing you there.
See you all soon......Tightlines.....
