First of our Summer League matches for this season and today we were in Staffordshire at Blake Hall. Whilst the weather was bright and sunny a cold wind was blowing and we seem to have been dogged by high winds for several matches now and i'm beginning to lose my sense of humour. The temperature was ok at about 17 degree's C, but the wind certainly made the apparent temperature feel a lot less.
Twenty four anglers made the match today and as usual at this venue, most tucked into a hearty breakfast before visiting the bait shop and waiting for the draw to take place.
Alan and James sorted the pegging and the draw took place at 8.30am.
Everyone then drove to their pegs, incident free apart from Phil Morris sliding down the bank in his car and required three anglers to help push him back on to the straight and narrow!
The match got under way at 10.00am for the usual five hour duration.
Has to be said it was disappointing today, firstly the high wind which consistently blew across the lake all day and the lack of fish made for many grim faces at the end of the weigh-in. Was it the wind, were they thinking of spawning or was it the lack of fish. Dunno, but one to forget.
Lee Clarke drew the Golden Peg and with a DNW to his name, it remains safe again.
Paul Roby had a decent day with 16lb 10oz, of which 13lb 12oz was a nice Common Carp, not our biggest fish this season, but given the day a welcome surprise.
Well done to all who fished, sympathy with you but hopefully in two weeks time at Cudmore we will be able to smile again.
Congratulations to our top three of Mark Davies, Mick Astbury and Paul Morris, we will do it all again in two weeks.
See you on a match soon.
