Brand new season and kicking off with our Winter League we were at Wrightington Fishery near Wigan fishing on Canals 1 & 2. An excellent turnout of 27 anglers arrived for 8am, two of which were Juniors who decided to take on the adults. Although called Winter League it is officially still Autumn and it was a pleasant Autumn day, a bit nippy and misty to start with and a slight breeze, which as the day passed became warmer, the sun appeared and the breeze was almost negligible.
We welcomed back a past member today Jon Green who we haven't seen for a while, so was good to have him back, and he had a good day too.
The draw took place everyone disappeared off to their pegs ready for the all-in at 10.00am. Start time duly arrived and the match passed without incident. The canals were noticeably patchy, with some anglers managing to catch a few Carp whilst many others had to make do with Silver fish to fill their nets.
Talking with anglers, most regular baits were used, Maggot, Pellet, Meat, Worm and some caught a few Roach on Sweetcorn.
After a pleasant five hours the match concluded and the weigh in got underway.
All the results can be seen below, well done to all those who fished, in particular our two Juniors Leon and Kieran who gave it a good go today.
Commiserations to John Osborne who drew Golden Peg and came joint second today with 21lb. "Good, but no cigar", as we say.
e have only seven days to wait until the next match which will be at Lloyd's Meadow on 18th October on Badger Pool. All you anglers fishing, we will see you there, usual time, 8.00am.
See you on a match soon.
