Second Spring League match and members fishing is again on the up, with this match seeing twenty nine anglers take to their pegs in what was a good match in great fishing conditions.
Members gathered for our usual 8am arrival time, some dining, some deciding to go have a stroll round the venue. While anglers did their thing, John and Alan sorted out the pegging, Frank and myself took the match and pools money. Once all fed and watered we had the draw at 8.30am and we ran the match as we normally do from 10.00am until 3.00pm, giving chance for members to get to their pegs and set up.
Golden Peg was drawn by Dave Newton, one of our new members who on his first outing a few weeks ago at High Heyes won the match, so we thought that it might go today.
Weather was ideal starting under clear blue skies, we had a very light breeze which put a ripple across the water and temperatures got up to 16 degree's, which in the sun was very pleasant.
As we explained on the last match, due to the volume of anglers fishing, we have split the Spring League into 'A' and 'B'. The latter also known as the league of distinguished gentlemen (and woman) who fish for their own league, a small pools for the top two, but not eligible for Matchman League. League 'A' is for the out and out matchmen who are eligible for Matchman as well as the Spring League, hope that makes sense!
All-In was sounded on the stroke of 10.00am and many anglers were in straight away, although it has to be said the fish appeared a bit finicky today, may be down to them coming up to spawning, at least for the Carp.
The usual baits were used, predominantly pellet, with also a smattering of Maggot and Sweetcorn.
It wouldn't have been a match without our coach driver busting a section or two, and to maintain his track record, he did again today . . . . Well Done Colin!
The match flashed by, and the All-Out was duly sounded at 3.00pm, with Alan, James & John in charge of proceedings.
All the results can be seen below, well done to everyone, hard luck to Dave Newton who finished a creditable fourth in the match, but not enough to win Golden Peg, there's always next time!
That's it for now, another two weeks and we will have our final Spring match at Heronbrook on 17th May, look forward to seeing you there.
