Seems to have flown by with this being our third and final Spring League match before we start our Summer stuff in a couple of weeks.
The weather Gods were on our side today with the hottest day of the year so far with the thermometer topping out at 23 degree's air temperature and an average light cooling breeze of 7 Km/Hr. Majority of people had the sensible idea of slapping some sun cream on.
We all duly arrived for 8am, our usual meeting time, trauma happening before we all arrived as we heard that the Morris Clan had strapped the majority of their gear on the roof of their car, which at some point on the M6 South duly departed their car! Having stopped, they collected their stuff, or most that could collected and eventually arrived at the venue minus a few bits and pieces.
We had 29 anglers again this week which is a fantastic turn out, we must be doing something right!
As is the norm, the majority dined in the cafe and Alan and John B arrived early to sort out the pegging (thanks guys, we do appreciate it).
The draw was completed at about 8.30am with Ken drawing the Golden Peg this match and the chance to win £200 if and only if he won the match.
This being the last match both Spring Leagues A & B were very close and it would go down to the wire.
The sun continued to blaze down from a clear blue sky and the start was scheduled and began at 10.00am for the usual 5 hours.
The match was tough with many of the Carp deciding to spawn having had a few days of 'Summer weather'. So liners and foul hooking was a major factor for the many. Anglers were also saying after the first hour or so it went quiet, it was a battle to find a method that worked. Baits varied from peg to peg no one bait was ideal today, it was a matter of getting the right combination.
Today the Stephen Hawking award for brains went to John Mysiak who netted a total of 83lb 14oz, followed by Neil D with 67lb 8oz and Phil C with 51lb.
Unfortunately Ken's Golden Peg was yet again cursed with him ending with 13lb 8oz in 20th Position. For the 'B Squad' Mike Lewis got the glory with 18lb 15oz, followed closely by Sue Nicholson with 17lb, her biggest match weight to date, well done Sue!
This being the last match, the Spring League results are now finalised and which you can see more on our leagues page.
For the 'A League' it was down to weight in the end between Dave Newton and Alan Lamb as they both finished with 18 points. Total weight for Dave across the three matches was 87lb 14oz, Alan marginally more with 89lb 12oz. Well done everyone for a closely fought league. Had Dave got another 2 ouncesin this match he would have gained another point, which would have won him the league, that's how close it was!
Finally 'B League' was exactly same scenario, this time between Mike Lewis and Frank Davies, both equal on 27 points at the end, so weight was the decider yet again. Mike totalling 41lb 15oz across the three matches, whilst Frank had 49lb 13oz, so as slightly wider margin than 'League A', but still close.
We now head off into our Summer Leagues, the first being another series of three, our Sunday Evening matches at Meadow View, known to us as our Summer Sizzlers. The first match being on Sunday 1st June. Arrive for draw at 4pm and the match fishes four hours from 5pm - 9pm.
Our traditional Summer League starts on Saturday 4th June at Blake Hall.
So we look forward to seeing you all soon.
