After the third attempt and weeks of Arctic weather conditions, we finally managed to conclude our Winter League 2010 which should have been completed on the 4th December.
After the last few days had seen evenings below zero, we were beginning to think that we would have to postpone it again, however with the efforts of Dave and Brian at Meadow View they ensured that we arrived at 8am with an ice free pool. There were even a few fish topping which bode well, given that the temperature was still only one or two degrees above freezing, and the water temperature was measured at zero decrees Celsius.
Fifteen members turned out to brave the weather and after a chat to catch up on gossip we held the draw and managed 'All-In' at 9.30am.
After battling for five hours, the match was all-out at 2.30pm. There were a couple of blankers, and a couple decided not to weigh in. On the whole, most people caught, suprisingly there were few silver fish, mainly Carp.
Suprise of the day was we have raised the weight for biggest fish.
Lammy managed to haul out a 15lb 12oz Carp which was part of his match winning 46lb haul. Well done Al, you blitzed the opposition today and won the 2010 Winter League in style.
Congratulations to everyone who fished the match. Golden Peg was safe today as Mike Lewis was the poor unfortunate as he was cursed with an empty net.
As this was our Christmas Fur & Feather match, we went off to the Walton Arms pub and enjoyed our traditional if not somewhat belated Christmas carvery.
That's it for the 2010 Winter League, well done all those that took part, in particular to the top three, Alan Lamb (1st), James Bryan (2nd) and Kev Smith (3rd).
The Spring League starts on 16th April also at Meadow View, hope to see you there...
