Summer League - Makins Fishery - Pool 4 - 18th June 2011

First match in our 2011 Summer League took place today for our Senior members and it was our first coach trip of the year.
'Young Brian' our coach driver decided to bring his smaller coach with trailer. The fact we had twenty members fishing today caused much head scratching when loading the coach and some time too. We eventually got underway heading South down the M6 to our first stop, which is of course the cafe on the A5. Having only got as far as Knutsford 'driver' spotted a flat tyre on the trailer, so it was a quick diversion into the service area for air.
Back on the M6 it was down to junction 12 and the A5 cafe. Again we had a slight delay as they had to feed twenty two people, but it was soon done. It was then back on the M6 (again) and due to our delays we took the M6 Toll road (no expense spared by this club). Suddenly 'Young Brian' decides to pull on to the hard shoulder for breakdown number two. He thought he had a puncture, but we hadn't, so it was off again to Makins. Eventually arriving at our destination at 9.30am.
It was a quick unload of the coach, sort the pegs out. get bait and do the draw.
All-In was set at 11.00am with nets-in at 10.45am (Fishery rules). We then fished on until 4.00pm.
First incident of the day was coach driver's trolley being blown over onto his pole. Thus creating a multi-section pole and stifled laughs from those nearby!! He was having a great day, especially after suffering abuse all the way down the motorway for having a small coach and any other reason members could find to give him verbals (we love him really)!
Match weather started off fine with sunny skies, but that soon changed to brief but heavy showers and gusting winds (not from the breakfast I hasten to add).
Which made for unpleasant fishing at times, especially for those on pegs 2 - 13 who were open to the elements, whilst members on pegs 18 - 25 were protected by a high bank. Second highlight was watching Ste Hughes' son put up a fishing brolly whilst the wind was howling. Not only was the wind howling so were nearby members watching the action unfold.
The match then passed by with sun, rain, wind, sun, rain, wind....
Our Chairman Frank had the Golden Peg for the third time in almost as many matches and again he was duly cursed by finishing in tenth place.
The weigh-in was completed before the heavens opened and it was back on the coach for the short journey to the New Inn in Bulkington where we were looked after by Helene & Pete Ball and their staff. Many thanks to them for the food and beer, much appreciated by everyone.
It was then back on the coach and back up North home..
Thanks to everyone for a great day and some good laughs with a spot of fishing thrown in for good measure. Well done to all, especially our top three, John, Kev and Alan. Hope to see everyone on the next match which is on SUNDAY 26th June at Whitmore Fishery.
Special thanks finally must go to Colin our coach driver for bravely putting up with the stick he got all day, and I do mean ALL DAY. Great sport, as are all of our members.

See you all soon......Tightlines.....
