First of our 2007 Summer League matches, and the weather was definitely Summer, with blue skies, sun and no breeze, it was a stifling 24 degrees.
The fish seemed to have the same opinion, they were there but not too keen on feeding. Having said that what was caught was a variety of species from Carp, Barbel, Roach, Skimmers & a Tench (Paul Roby caught a Tench...).
22 members fished today and everyone caught. Good to see old friends Marie & Joe Worsley back in blighty. Think Joe was inspired as he landed second place in the match with 16lb 8oz 'assisted' by Marie.
Phil came in first with 26lb 5oz having spent four hours doing very little, the last hour was extreme fishing! Well done Phil. Tom Prescott got third place helped by a decent size Carp (see match photo gallery) and persistence!
Most people left with their tackle intact, although a few did lose floats, hooks and rigs.
One highlight of the day was Paul Roby leaving his peg unattended and a crow flew down and pinched one of his sandwiches!
We also had a visit from the Environment Agency who were at the fishery checking that all anglers had their rod licences. We are pleased to say all of our members had theirs.
After the match and weigh-in, several members retired to the Egerton Arms pub for refreshment after being baked in the sun all day and discussed the fact that Warrington lost at St Helens in the Challenge Cup (no change there then).
Next stop in our Summer series is Tunnel Barn Farm on 30th June. This is the first coach trip of the season, so as long as 'young Brian' has his navigating head on, we should get there and have a great day! |
